Description
The Bedouin is bell tenting done properly, four metres wide and two and a half metres tall at the peak. What sets it apart is the space. There's no centre pole, so the floor is completely open, with nothing to work around when you're laying out beds, kit, or just room to move.
A three-pole wall frame runs down inside the canvas and bends at the base to hold it rigid and taut, with a V-frame shaping the doorway. It stands solid in wind without a pole eating into the middle of the tent.
The canvas is 280g polycotton. It breathes in the heat so the inside doesn't bake, holds warmth when the temperature drops, and it's PVC-coated and water-resistant. PVC mesh runs throughout for airflow without letting the insects in. Underneath, the groundsheet is 540g flame-retardant PVC, fully waterproof and insulated, so damp and cold stay outside, and it wipes clean.
It works just as well for a weekend in the desert as it does pitched semi-permanently at a glamping site or in the garden. Set it up with inflatable beds for a proper night's sleep, or keep it simple with mats on the ground. Either way it goes up time after time and holds its shape.
Setup and pitching
Pitching it: lay the tent out on the groundsheet and spread the edges evenly on a flat surface, then peg the base down through the guide holes so it's secure.
Open the front door and fit the V-frame that shapes the entrance. Then build the three-pole wall structure, a central connector in the roof with three poles running down the canvas and bending at the base to pull it rigid.
Velcro straps hold the wall poles in place. Finish by running the guy lines out and pulling them taut into the pegs.
How long it takes: about 10 minutes with two people, 15 to 20 on your own at a steady pace. One person can manage it once they know the tent, but the central pole structure is easier with two, one holding the connector while the poles go in.
Good to know: the steel pegs are heavy-duty and hold in desert sand, grass and gravel wadi ground alike. They need a heavy-duty hammer or mallet to drive in, not a light rubber one, and that isn't included, so bring one. Pack the canvas away dry where you can.
Care and storage
Polycotton canvas lasts for years if you look after it. The main rule is to pack it away dry. If you have to take it down wet, set it back up or spread it out to dry fully within a day or two, so the canvas doesn't sit damp and risk mould, staining or corrosion on the frame.
Brush off loose sand and dirt before packing. For marks, use cold water and a soft brush, no detergents or pressure washers, which strip the coating. The groundsheet wipes clean with water.
A new canvas may let a little moisture through in its first heavy rain. That's normal, it's the cotton fibres swelling to seal the weave, and it settles after the first wetting and drying. Store the tent in its bag somewhere dry and out of direct sun.

FAQs
How long does it take to pitch?
About 10 minutes with two people, 15 to 20 on your own at a steady pace. You lay it out and peg the base, fit the door frame, build the three-pole wall structure, then run out the guy lines.
One person can do it once they know the tent, but two makes the pole structure easier.
Do I need a hammer, or is everything included?
The tent comes with everything to pitch it, frame, 12 guy lines and 23 heavy-duty steel pegs. The one thing it doesn't include is a hammer.
The pegs are heavy-duty steel, so on hard ground like wadi you'll want a proper hammer or sturdy mallet to drive them in, a light rubber mallet won't do it. Bring one with you.
Will it keep heavy rain out?
Yes. The canvas is 280g PVC-coated polycotton and the groundsheet is fully waterproof.
One thing worth knowing: a brand-new canvas can let a little moisture through in its first heavy downpour, which is the cotton fibres swelling to seal the weave. It settles after the first wetting and drying and is fully water-resistant from then on.
How many people does it sleep?
Four on inflatable beds, whether that's four singles, two doubles or a mix. Up to six on mats on the ground. With no centre pole, the floor is open to lay out however you like.
Does it hold up in the heat?
Polycotton breathes far better than synthetic tents, so it doesn't bake the way a nylon tent does, and the full PVC mesh keeps air moving while keeping insects out. It's built for warm-climate camping.
How is it delivered?
It arrives in a single carry bag, around 35 x 35 x 94cm, with the canvas, frame and pegs inside. There's no permanent assembly, you pitch it on site each trip and pack it back into the bag afterwards.
