The Explorer is the most practical tent Nomadic makes. It is a pop-up, so there are no poles to thread and nothing to put together. You take it out of the bag, release it, and the self-erecting steel-wire frame springs it open in seconds.
The shell is 200g terylene, waterproof, with a TC inner lining that helps with condensation and keeps the inside comfortable. The floor is 210D Oxford with a PU waterproof coating, so it stands up to sand, grass and damp ground.
It pitches at 250 by 150cm with 110cm of head height, room for two to sit up, sleep and keep their kit out of the weather.
Packed down it is a flat disc, 86 by 86 by 6cm, and the whole thing weighs 9kg, so it carries one-handed and drops into the boot without taking the space a rolled tent would.
It is the tent for the trip you decide on the same morning. Quick to pitch, easy to carry, and ready whenever the weekend is.
Pitching it: Take the folded tent out of its bag and give yourself a bit of space. Release the strap and the steel-wire frame springs the tent open on its own. Set it where you want it, peg down the corners, and run out the two guy lines so it holds in wind.
How long it takes: The tent pops up in seconds, there is nothing to assemble. Packing it back down uses a folding technique that twists the frame back into the flat disc, and it takes a couple of goes to learn. Once you have done it once or twice it is quick.
Good to know: Use the pegs and guy lines to hold it down rather than relying on the tent's own weight, especially in wind.
Pack the tent away dry where you can. If you have to fold it down wet, open it out to dry fully within a day or two so the fabric does not sit damp and risk mould or marking.
Brush off sand and dirt before folding. For marks, use cold water and a soft brush, no detergents or pressure washers. Make sure the floor is clean and dry before it goes back in the bag.
Store it folded flat in its bag somewhere dry and out of direct sun. Learning the fold properly keeps the frame in good shape over time.

Two. It pitches at 250 by 150cm with 110cm of head height, which is room for two to sleep, sit up and keep their kit out of the weather.
Yes. The shell is 200g terylene with a waterproof coating, and the floor is 210D Oxford with a PU waterproof coating. As with any tent, pack it away dry where you can to keep it in good condition.
Peg down the corners and run out the two guy lines and it holds steady in normal conditions. It is a lightweight pop-up, so on very exposed ground like an open beach or dune, peg it down well and face the door away from the wind.
Like all pop-up tents, folding it back into the disc takes a specific twist-and-fold technique. It catches most people out the first time, but after a go or two it is quick and easy. There is a simple knack to it rather than any real effort.
It arrives as a flat disc in its carry bag, 86 by 86 by 6cm and 9kg, with the windbreak, guy lines and pegs inside. There is no assembly, you pop it up on site and fold it back down to pack away.
